Shop Manager Job Description


Job Overview

We’re looking for a shop manager to lead our skilled team of fabricators and oversee all aspects of building and installing our projects. We need someone who thrives at running a fabrication shop and taking on a huge variety of architectural-scale projects from residential staircases to commercial office environments and everything in between. 

The ideal candidate has:

  • 8+ years of experience in woodworking and metalworking and comfort with all aspects from start to finish: pre-assembly, assembly, finishing/detailing and installation. 

  • Experience working closely with architects, designers, and general contractors

  • Experience building in both shop and jobsite environments

  • The ability to manage a team and has multiple years of experience doing so

  • An eye for detail and the skill to execute

  • A positive, focused, energetic and flexible attitude 

  • Stellar communication skills 

  • A curious mind and an interest in taking on complex projects


Shop Manager Responsibilities (abbreviated):

  • Manage fabrication employees and subcontractors 

  • Lead the fabrication, finish, delivery and installation of all projects

  • Manage schedule, budget and quality control of all projects

  • Assist with estimating

  • Order materials and manage flow in and out of shop

  • Identify and schedule repairs/maintenance for shop tools and equipment


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience working in a shop environment building architectural, furniture, or sculptural work.

  • Exceptional skill with wood and metal fabrication

  • Ability to read and work off shop drawings

  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs

  • Professionalism and stellar communication skills

  • Flexibility and willingness to get jobs over the finish line on budget, on time, and meet client expectations 


Position Details

Title: Shop Manager

Type: Full-Time Position

Hourly Rate: Based on experience.

Additional benefits: Paid vacation and sick leave. Retirement contribution system. Monthly health insurance stipend. Annual bonus structure based on the individual’s success and overall success of the company

Working Hours: M-F 6:30am - 2:30pm (subject to change). Saturdays and Sundays as required by workload
