Our history
Hailing from the plains of Kansas, Kyle learned the value of hard work and developed an appreciation for the seemingly disparate worlds of the organic and industrial environments that surrounded him. While studying at the Kansas City Art Institute, he discovered a unique ability to develop other people’s artistic ideas through conversational collaboration, and was hired to help translate multiple department chairs’ visions into reality. This talent brought him to work at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, where Kyle was urged by visiting artists and coworkers to start his own business, and, in a tiny corner of an old toy factory in downtown Los Angeles, Kyle Minor Design was born!
25 years and thousands of twisty coastal turns later, KMD has sunk deep roots into San Francisco and its traditionally non-traditional, constantly evolving culture. The KMD team has amassed a diverse set of skills that allows ephemeral ideas to become fully and uniquely realized. With an artist’s sentiment and a craftsman’s dedication, and decades of experience in custom design, project management, metal and wood fabrication, fine finishing, and installation, the KMD team is looking forward to turning your concept into reality, “Build Custom, Build Once.”
